We were proud to feature Huff Estates in June 2018.
Huff Estates was founded in 2002 and officially opened it’s doors in 2004. Huff Estates Winery was constructed with one thing in mind – producing high quality wines. The state-of-the-art facility has its crush pad and fermentation tanks sitting on top of a hill allowing for a natural gravity flow into the barrels below.
Huff will continue to share its family passion and history of the land by producing exceptional wines sourced from well-maintained vines complemented with the finest of winemaking expertise.

PINOT GRIS, 2017

Appearance: Clear. Bright. Straw coloured core, light rim. Tiny effervescent bubbles.
Nose: Medium aromatic intensity. White flowers, nectarine, pear, green apple, citrus, minerality.
Palate: Medium+ acid, medium body. Pear, peach, grapefruit and lemon citrus.
Food Pairing: Cheese plates, stuffed mushroom caps with goat’s cheese, raw oysters, mussels in a white wine broth, Caprese salad, Thai green curry, pork chops with applesauce.
Comment:
At 14 years old, Huff Estates is one of the oldest wineries in the thriving Prince Edward County wine region. French winemaker Frédéric Picard has his roots in Burgundy, and much experience at wineries around the world, and is crafting world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, among many other varietals at Huff Estates.
This is a lovely Pinot Gris showing the character of Prince Edward County terroir; citrus and stone fruit-forward with mineral undertones. Aged in stainless steel, there’s an extra touch of acidity that gives the wine a refreshing, tart first sip that smoothes into a lovely balance of fruit with a hint of sweetness on the palate. Enjoy!

Appearance: Bright. Semi-opaque. Deep garnet core, maroon rim.
Nose: Medium aromatic intensity. Dark cherry, blueberries, black licorice, black pepper, savoury herbs.
Palate: Medium acid, medium+ tannin, medium body. Dark cherry, black pepper, baking spice, green undertones of bell pepper, thyme and other savoury herbs, a hint of smoke.
Food Pairing: Spaghetti with meatballs, roasted eggplant, anything barbecued from veggie burgers to bison steaks with blue cheese, charcuterie, beef dumplings, and vermicelli noodles with pork.

This is the first single varietal Cabernet Franc to be produced from Huff’s South Bay Vineyard and it is an excellent first attempt. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, it’s well balanced, flavourful, and very smooth on the palate. It’s drinking very nicely now, but could also be cellared for 3-4 more years.

Appearance: Bright. Clear. Golden core, lighter rim.
Nose: Medium aromatic intensity. Green apple, orange and lemon citrus, stone fruits, oak spice, vanilla.
Palate: Medium body, medium acid. Citrus and stone fruit notes with a hint of tropical fruit, hazelnut, saline, baking spice.
Quality: Very good quality. This wine was aged for 12 months in French oak and this expression is more of a savoury, spiced Chardonnay. The winemaker’s talents really shine through on this wine as it’s well balanced, complex, and beautifully flavoured.
Food Pairing: Carbonara pasta, Alfredo sauces, lobster bisque, quiche with pancetta, Jimmy cakes with fruit salsa, grilled cheese sandwiches with fig & caramelized onion.
MERLOT, 2017

Appearance: Bright. Semi-opaque. Deep maroon-coloured core, lighter rim.
Nose: Medium+ aromatic intensity. Black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, violet, baking spice. Leather, black pepper, menthol.
Palate: Medium body, medium tannin, medium acid. Blackberry, baking spice, black pepper.
Quality: Good quality. This Merlot has good bones and structure. Two to three years in the cellar will allow the wine to develop, balance, and settle.
Food Pairing: Chorizo sausage on a bun, tomato-based pastas and pizzas, burgers and onion rings, roasted duck with hoisin sauce, spring rolls with plum sauce, roasted chicken roll stuffed with bacon and swiss cheese.
RIESLING OFF DRY, 2017

Nose: Medium aromatic intensity. Sheep’s wool, beeswax, melon, green apple, almonds.
Palate: Medium body, medium acid. Honeydew melon, green apple, honey, and spice.
Quality: Very good quality. A light mouthfeel with a depth of flavour on the palate. Off dry, but well balanced with acid, leaving you with a hint of sweetness at the end.
Food Pairing: Seafood, fish and chips, Santa Fe chicken salad, Cajun-style shrimp, fig & goat’s cheese pizza, Massaman curry, and Indian cuisine.
PINOT NOIR RESERVE, 2016

Appearance: Bright. Semi-opaque. Ruby core, lighter rim.
Nose: Medium+ aromatic intensity. Ripe red cherry, plum, raspberry, strawberry, black pepper, earth after a rainfall.
Palate: Medium acid, medium tannin, and medium body. Red cherry, plum. red berries, hint of black pepper, baking spice.
Quality: Very good quality. This is a gorgeous Pinot with ripe red fruit bounding out of the glass. Still young, the tannins are a bit stiff. Two to three years in the cellar will integrate the tannins and add more complexity to the wine.
Food Pairing: Grilled salmon, Portobello mushroom burgers, roasted red beets and leaves, beef Bulgogi, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, saucy ribs with a tangy BBQ sauce.
